Graphic Design Coordinator

Gail Borden Public Library has an immediate opening for a full-time Graphic Design Coordinator to work in our fast-paced Graphics Department at the Main Library. Candidates must be able to design and produce brochures, signs, posters, flyers, program props and other content. In addition, the position requires taking photos of library events and exhibits as well as monitoring and assigning graphic requests to the appropriate designer.

Qualifications:

  • College degree in graphic arts or equivalent college coursework with experience in photography in the graphics field.
  • Experience and skill using Acrobat Pro, Illustrator, Photoshop and In Design.
  • Experience with social media and content marketing
  • Highly developed skill in basic graphics and composition with an eye for detail.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment with the ability to prioritize and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to adapt to changing technology; comfortable with trying out new technology.
  • Must be able to work independently and communicate effectively.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively with others and have a courteous manner.  

Full-time position (37.5 hours per week); occasional evenings & weekends will be required.

Hourly Rate:$25.65 per hour + enrollment in IMRF + Excellent Benefits

Career Services Librarian

The Career Services Librarian provides general reference information and responds to career resource requests for library customers, in-person, virtually, and by appointment. This position also staffs the public Information Desk and includes regular programming responsibilities such as: scheduling speakers, reserving rooms, requesting marketing materials, and welcoming attendees.

Building relationships, collaborating with community partners, and representing the library in a professional manner is an essential part of this position. Excellent public presentation skills are required for frequent presentations, technology classes, and career programming. Proficiency with technology, such as smartphones, tablets, LCD projector, and Apple TV is expected. The ideal candidate will be involved with the community and must exude confidence and ability to provide excellent customer service.

The Career Services Librarian will also serve as a U.S. Passport Acceptance Agent. Eligibility requirements are as follows:

  • U.S. citizen or a U.S. non-citizen national
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Does not have a record of either: (i) A Federal or State felony conviction; or (ii) A misdemeanor conviction for crimes involving moral turpitude or breach of trust, including but not limited to embezzlement, identity theft, misappropriation, document fraud, drug offenses, or dishonesty in carrying out a responsibility involving public trust.

Qualifications:

  • Master's in Library Science (MLS) or Master's in Library and Information Studies (MLIS)
  • Library experience desired
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills
  • Commitment to developing and maintaining user-centered library services
  • Positive attitude in support of the library’s mission, vision, and values
  • Excellent leadership skills
  • Bilingual Spanish-English communication skills preferred

Branch Services Early Literacy Coordinator

Are you a creative, hands-on leader with a passion for bringing the library to life for our youngest customers? If you are passionate about early literacy and enjoy serving young children and families, we have an exciting opportunity for you! We are looking for a friendly, creative, and enthusiastic individual with excellent communication and customer service skills to join our Branch Services team.  The successful individual in this position will be an energetic team player who makes customers feel at home, and – most importantly- enjoys working with children of all ages.

In this role you will:

  • Coordinate, plan, and present early childhood programs and events at both branch locations, including weekly storytime, programs for parents and caregivers, and Welcome Baby!
  • Oversee children’s spaces to ensure a pleasant playful and learning environment for children and caregivers
  • Facilitate age-appropriate passive programming activities
  • Provide basic readers’ advisory and reference assistance to children, teens and adults
  • Assist customers with computer applications, eReaders and other mobile devices
  • Serve as Person in Charge (PIC) in manager’s absence

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience working with children in group settings
  • Early literacy experience desired
  • Knowledge and experience with basic computer and mobile device applications
  • Previous library and customer service experience preferred  
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills a plus

25 hours per week; schedule includes day, evening and weekend hours

Hourly Rate:  $17.28 per hour. Position includes enrollment in IMRF and prorated time-off benefits.

KidSpace Early Literacy Associate 

Are you a creative, hands-on leader with a passion for bringing the library to life for our youngest customers? Are you passionate about early literacy and find working with children, parents and teachers energizing? Gail Borden Public Library is looking for a friendly, creative, and enthusiastic person to join our KidSpace Department at the Main Library. Candidates must be proficient in technology and possess strong customer service skills, must be comfortable working on a team in a fast-paced environment, and—most importantly—must enjoy working with children of all ages.

In this role you will:

  • Coordinate, plan, and present weekly preschool programs and events for groups of all sizes
  • Collaborate with local schools, day care centers and community partners on large events, such as the Preschool Information Fair
  • Assist in maintaining the toy and kit collection to meet our customer's needs
  • Provide reader's advisory and reference assistance to children of all ages and their caregivers
  • Facilitate passive programming, such as “messy play on the patio” and scavenger hunts

 

You will need to be:

  • Friendly, outgoing, and able to work with all types of people … especially children
  • Organized & detail-minded to plan and present literature-based and STEAM programs to children
  • Knowledgeable about technology trends in education
  • Knowledgeable about children's books and materials
  • Able to collaborate with a team and work one on one with customers and staff
  • Moderately agile with the ability to maintain a moderate activity level involved with children’s programming
  • Adaptable and positive about changes in existing practices, assignments, and workflows

 

Other Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Work experience in public library or school preferred, along with successful experience working with young children
  • Early literacy experience desired
  • Spanish language skills desired

 

Part-Time:18 hours per week. Hours include 1 morning shift, afternoons, and every other Saturday. (Schedule is subject to change)

Pay Rate:  $17.28 per hour
