Adult Collection Librarian 


Do you have experience selecting materials for adult readers? Collection Services is looking for a tech savvy, friendly, flexible, and innovative librarian with strong communication, organization, and analytical skills. 

Under the general direction of the Director of Collection Services, this positionwill be responsible for:

  • Selecting and ordering materials in a variety of formats including printed materials, eBooks, eAudiobooks, and A/V collections.
  • Analyzing and evaluating collection statistics
  • Writing, editing, monitoring, and working collaboratively with staff and vendor partners on current and new collection development profiles
  • Maintaining leasing contract and quotas including tracking and determining leasing returns and rotations
  • Knowledge of popular adult materials across various groups and formats, along with publishing trends and issues, and conversant with best practices and trends in library collection processes.

Qualifications:

  • Masters’ Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability for sound judgment and independent thinking
  • Intermediate to advanced level digital literacy skills
  • Use of Innovative Interfaces Sierra ILS preferred
  • Demonstrated experience selecting adult literature preferred
  • Spanish language skills desirable

 

Full-time, exempt position (37.5 hours per week); Monday – Friday hours

Salary: $54,600 per year + Excellent Benefits Package including IMRF, insurance, PTO

KidSpace Desk & Program Page

The Main Library location has a part-time Page position available in the KidSpace Department.  We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual, who loves working with children, to support our fast-paced, energy-driven, kid-friendly department. The mix of duties includes, but is not limited to:

  • Assisting with staff activities at the Youth Center Help Desk
  • Assisting at children’s programs with tasks such as modeling story-time behaviors, monitoring the crowd, basic puppetry, or other tasks
  • Assisting children and caregivers with Youth Center computers
  • Supporting the department with many behind-the-scenes tasks
  • Retrieving materials as requested

Qualifications:

  • Minimum age requirement - 16 years of age
  • Must have knowledge and skills in using basic computer applications including internet searches and word processing programs
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Desire and ability to work with children
  • Spanish language skills are a plus

15 hours per week; must be flexible to work a varied schedule including late afternoons, evenings, and weekends.

 

Hourly Rate:   $ 12.00 per hour

Pandemic Health Navigator

The COVID-19 Pandemic Health Navigator Program (PHNP) is an integral part of the State’s response to COVID-19 that integrates community health centers, community-based organizations, and our public health partners to coordinate resources for our most vulnerable populations impacted by COVID-19.

The Pandemic Health Navigator (PHN) assists individuals in the community, particularly those residing in low-income and marginalized areas, with challenges they encounter due to the pandemic including, but not limited to, helping clients complete the proper steps to obtain a COVID-19 vaccine if needed and identifying issues the client has because of the pandemic such as housing concerns, health issues and employment difficulties, then referring clients to the appropriate resources to help them with these issues.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provide resource information by utilizing local database systems and resource lists.
  • Collect and enter data to document client encounters accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Participate in all required meetings and trainings related to the PHN program.
  • Participate in outreach events in the community to promote awareness, including vaccination clinics.
  • Staff the Pandemic Team table at the library to assist clients with vaccine appointments, COVID testing information, COVID questions, filing client applications as needed, etc.
  • Determine client needs via the phone and if needed make a contactless delivery.
  • Work with other organizations within and outside of the PHN program.
  • Miscellaneous assignments when needed

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to think critically and make decisions based on information provided.
  • Self-starter, quick learner and able to work independently with limited oversight.
  • Possess strong technical skills and knowledge to operate a computer, web-based applications and searches; operate a smartphone and apps; complete online and virtual training modules independently; and document client contacts via online software system.
  • Ability to communicate effectively via email, phone, text, video conference and/or in person.
  • Bilingual speakers preferred.
  • Experience with community work such as advocacy and volunteering preferred.
  • Empathetic attitude toward the less fortunate.

Other Requirements:  

  • Full COVID-19 vaccination.
  • Ability to lift and carry 30 pounds, if necessary.
  • Transportation and auto insurance.

Temporary full-time positions available starting immediately and projected to end by June 30, 2022.

Pay Rate: $20 per hour

Senior Branch Clerk

We are looking for a friendly individual with excellent communication and customer service skills to join our versatile, cross-trained team at our Rakow Branch. The successful individual in this position will be a reliable, motivated, and enthusiastic team player who makes customers feel at home and can be an exemplary Person in Charge in the manager’s absence.

In this role you will:

  • Provide basic readers’ advisory and reference assistance to children, teens, and adults
  • Assist customers with computer applications and mobile devices
  • Perform circulation routines, including library card registration, material handling, and shelving
  • Serve as Person in Charge (PIC) in manager’s absence

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge and experience with basic computer applications and mobile devices
  • Previous library and customer service experience preferred  
  • Bilingual English/Spanish language skills a plus

Part-Time:18 hours per week at the Rakow Branch. Schedule includes weekday, evening, and weekend hours. There may be opportunities to work at the South Elgin Branch and Bookmobile too.

Branch Services Library Associate

  • Previous library and customer service experience preferred  
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills a plus

Part-Time: 25 hours per week at the Rakow Branch. Schedule includes weekday, evening, and weekend hours. Preliminary schedule will be as follows (rotating weeks):
