Customer Relations Clerk.  

Gail Borden Public Library has a part-time position available in our fast-paced Customer Relations Department at our Main Library facility.  The individual for this position must have excellent communication and customer service skills, the abiltiy to problem-solve and analyze customer needs, and enjoy providing top-notch service to library customers.


Job duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing library material check-in and outs, renewals, holds, and customer library card registrations
  • Providing information to customers, answering questions, and being proactive with offering assistance in a friendly and professional manner
  • Receiving and recording customer fines
  • Using technology and digital resources to assist patrons with electronic platforms
  • Answering telephone calls and providing routine information or referring call to appropriate departments
  • Assisting with shelf reading and shelving of materials, as needed



  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Some knowledge of library clerical procedures and practices
  • Experience in a customer service enviornment
  • Basic math skills and ablity to alphabetize
  • Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish preferred


18 hours per week – combination of days, nights and weekend hours. Schedule may be subject to change.

            Monday 9:00 am – 2:00 pm

            Thursday 4:00 pm - 9:00 pm

            Friday 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm

            Saturday 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm


Hourly Rate:  $12.65 per hour

Branch Services Clerk.    Four temporary part-time positions will be available at our Branch locations starting in May through mid-August 2017. Two positions will be at Rakow Branch and two will be at South Elgin Branch. 


We are looking for creative and enthusiastic individuals with excellent interpersonal skills who can juggle tasks in a fast-paced environment. The individuals in these positions need to be versatile, customer-focused and enjoy providing top-notch customer service.The mix of duties will include: 

  • Assisting chilren and adults with the summer reading program
  • Assisting customers with computer applications, printing, self-check and DVD dispenser equipment, eReaders and other mobile devices
  • Helping with family programs


Qualifications:  High School diploma or equivalent. Experience working with children, a plus. Knowledge and experience with basic computer applications required.  Previous customer service experience preferred.  Bilingual English/Spanish language skills, a plus.


18 hours per week; schedule includes day, evening and weekend hours


Hourly Rate:  $12.25 per hour
