Graphic Designer & Videographer

Gail Borden Public Library has an immediate opening for a full-time Graphic Designer & Videographer to work in our fast-paced Graphics Department at the Main Library. The candidate must be able to travel to other library locations and/or events or programs. Candidates must be able to design and produce brochures, signs, posters, flyers, program props and other content as well as record audio and video content, including editing, to complete audiovisual graphics requests along with managing audiovisual equipment.  In addition, the position requires taking photos of library events and exhibits, then editing and posting to communication channels.


  • College degree in graphic arts or equivalent college coursework with experience in video, video editing and photography in the graphics field.
  • Experience and skill using Acrobat Pro, Illustrator, Photoshop, In Design, Premier and After Effects.
  • End-to-end video production experience as well as knowledge of animation or motion graphics.
  • Experience with social media and content marketing.
  • Highly developed skill in basic graphics and composition with an eye for detail.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment with the ability to prioritize and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to adapt to changing technology; comfortable with trying out new technology.
  • Must be able to work independently and communicate effectively.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively with others and have a courteous manner.   

Full-time position (37.5 hours per week); occasional evenings & weekends will be required.

Hourly Rate: $16.61 per hour + enrollment in IMRF, library subsidized insurance and time-off benefits.

Rakow Branch Library Associate

    If you love interacting with people of all ages, we have a great opportunity for you! We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with excellent communication and customer service skills to join our versatile, cross-trained team at our Rakow Branch facility.  The mix of responsibilities of this position includes an emphasis on planning and presenting creative children and family programs, providing basic readers’ advisory and reference assistance to children, teens and adults, and assisting customers with computer applications, eReaders and other mobile devices. The successful individual in this position will be an energetic team player who makes customers feel at home.


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience working with children in group settings.  
  • Knowledge and experience with basic computer and mobile device applications. 
  • Previous library and customer service experience preferred.  Bilingual English/Spanish skills a plus.

Part-time:  25 hours per week; schedule includes day, evening and weekend hours

Hourly Rate:  $16.61 per hour. Position includes enrollment in IMRF and prorated time-off benefits.
