Branch Services Clerk

Four temporary part-time positions will be available at our Branch locations starting in May through mid-August 2017. Two positions will be at Rakow Branch and two will be at South Elgin Branch. 

We are looking for creative and enthusiastic individuals with excellent interpersonal skills who can juggle tasks in a fast-paced environment. The individuals in these positions need to be versatile, customer-focused and enjoy providing top-notch customer service.The mix of duties will include:

  • Assisting children and adults with the summer reading program
  • Assisting customers with computer applications, printing, self-check and DVD dispenser equipment, and eReader and other mobile devices
  • Helping with family programs


  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge and experience with basic computer applications
  • Previous customer service experience preferred
  • Experience working with children, a plus  

18 hours per week; schedule includes day, evening and weekend hours

Hourly Rate:  $12.25 per hour

Come join us in our Technical Services Department at our Main Library location! We have an opening on our materials processing team starting mid-May.  We are looking for a detail-oriented and reliable person with initiative and a positive attitude. The ideal candidate will have above average attention to detail and accuracy, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to learn a wide variety of processing procedures, and pride in a job well done.

Responsibilities for this position include the time-sensitive task of prepping discs for mechanical dispensers and processing select books and materials. Tasks include assisting with labeling, mending, and programming of RFID tags, as well as re-labeling or re-packaging of library materials.


  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Above average attention to details and accuracy
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Comfortable with technology and ability to use a computer, printer, and labelling devices
  • Manual dexterity to do labeling and packaging of materials
  • Ability to quickly learn the library’s ILS system, Sierra, and RFID software

15 hours per week; Monday - Friday day-time hours with no nights or weekends.

Hourly Rate: $9.50 per hour
