Branch Customer Relations Associate
Are you passionate about libraries and providing excellent customer service? Gail Borden Public Library is seeking a dedicated Branch Customer Relations Associate to join our versatile, cross-trained team! The successful individual in this position will be a reliable, motivated, and energetic team player. This role is crucial in maintaining the smooth operation of our branches and ensuring a positive experience for all customers. You will serve as Person in Charge and handle problem situations in the manager’s absence.
In this role you will:
- Provide readers’ advisory and reference assistance to children, teens, and adults.
- Perform circulation services, including check-in/check-out of materials and placing holds on materials.
- Perform library card registration and program registration.
- Assist customers with computer applications, printing, self-check, DVD dispenser, laptop dispenser, eReaders, and other mobile devices.
- Assist with supervising, training, and coordinating the activities of support staff.
- Serve as Person in Charge (PIC) in the absence of Managers.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Previous library and customer service experience preferred.
- Knowledge and experience with basic computer applications and mobile devices.
- Bilingual English/Spanish language skills a plus.
- Must have reliable transportation to be able to work at the South Elgin Branch and Rakow Branch.
25 hours per week – split between both Branch locations. Schedule includes weekday, evening, and weekend hours.

Graphic Designer Assistant
Gail Borden Public Library has an immediate part-time opening for a creative Graphic Design Assistant to join our Visual Arts team. This role is essential in shaping the library’s visual identity and ensuring our offerings are visible and marketed effectively throughout the community.
As a key contributor to our award-winning library, you will design and produce high-visibility promotional materials - including ads, brochures, flyers, signage, and more - that connect the community to our programs, resources, and services while strengthening our brand.
Qualifications:
- College degree in graphic arts or equivalent coursework with professional experience in the graphics field.
- Demonstrated experience and proficiency using computer graphics software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and Acrobat Pro).
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment while managing multiple priorities.
- Highly developed skill in basic graphics and composition with above-average attention to detail and accuracy.
- Experience with print execution and the production of physical marketing materials.
- Ability to work collaboratively in conceptual development meetings for library-wide projects.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
18 hours per week - with occasional evenings & weekends based on library events.

Security Guard
Gail Borden Public Library has an immediate opening for a part-time Security Guard. The individual in this position will patrol the interior and exterior of the Main Library, as well as the branch locations. The person in this position must exercise sound judgment in interpreting library safety and security policies with the ability to take decisive action when needed. This position requires the ability to make continuous rounds of all public and staff areas, including parking areas.
The mix of duties for this position includes, but is not limited to:
- Assists staff in maintaining appropriate customer behavior.
- Enforces correction of minor policy infractions
- Writes Incident Reports for unusual or disruptive incidents.
- Assists in monitoring theft detection.
- Performs a total security check of Library facilities after closing.
- Assists with maintenance functions as needed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid Illinois driver’s license and clean driving record required.
- Requires physical stamina and mobility to perform ongoing patrols of interior and exterior library spaces.
- Knowledge and experience in security procedures, emergency safety practices, and de-escalation techniques.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic computer skills
- Prior police, fire or military experience strongly preferred.
- Spanish language skills are a plus.
18 hours per week; the schedule includes afternoon, evening, and weekend hours. Must be available to respond on an on-call basis to escalated security incidents, as needed.
