KidSpace Library Associate 

Do you love working with children?  Are you able to juggle tasks in a fast-paced environment and thrive on change? Do you enjoy learning about new things and sharing this knowledge in creative ways?  Gail Borden Public Library is looking for a friendly, creative, and enthusiastic person with excellent interpersonal skills to join our KidSpace Department at the Main Library.

Candidates must be proficient in technology, comfortable working on a team, possess strong customer service skills, and enjoy working with children, parents, educators, and caregivers.

In this role you will:

  • Provide basic readers’ advisory and reference assistance to children and their parents/caregivers
  • Plan and present in-person and virtualprograms for children, families, educators, and caregivers 
  • Create downloadable activities, such as storytimes, crafts, and STEAM activities
  • Conduct class visits, tours of KidSpace, and bibliographic instruction
  • Create booklists and other educational materials for our customers
  • Assist our young customers with computer applications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Successful experience working with children in group settings
  •  Able to work with all types of people and find opportunities to make them feel welcome
  • Excellent presentation skills for groups of all sizes and ages
  • Knowledgeable about children's books and materials
  • Basic computer application skills required, including internet searches, social media, Microsoft Office and working with tablets 
  • Previous library or classroom experience preferred
  • Bilingual English/Spanish language skills highly desired
  • Able to work every other weekend

Part-time -28 hours per week - Schedule for School Year 2021-22(schedule is subject to change):

  • Tuesdays: 11-5
  • Wednesdays: 12:30-9
  • Thursdays: 9-5
  • Every Other Weekend (Saturday 8:30 – 5 and Sunday 12 – 5)

 

Hourly Rate:  $17.28 per hour + Excellent Benefits (IMRF and paid time off)

KidSpace Early Literacy Associate 

Are you a creative, hands-on leader with a passion for bringing the library to life for our youngest customers? Are you passionate about early literacy and find working with children, parents, and teachers energizing? Do you love reading stories and singing songs with preschoolers? Gail Borden Public Library is looking for a friendly, creative, and enthusiastic person to join our KidSpace Department at the Main Library location.

In this role you will:

  • Coordinate, plan and present weekly preschool programs and events, both virtually and in-person
  • Collaborate with local schools, day care centers and community partners on large events, such as the Preschool Information Fair and Babyfest
  • Help maintain the toy and kit collection to meet our customers’ needs
  • Provide reader's advisory and reference assistance to children of all ages and their caregivers
  • Facilitate passive programming, such as scavenger hunts and open play

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Experience working in a public library or school preferred with hands-on experience planning and presenting literature-based and STEAM programs
  • Able to work with all types of people and find opportunities to make people feel welcome

Branch Services Clerk

If you enjoy providing top-notch customer service and want to join our talented and resourceful library team, we have an exciting opportunity for you! The Rakow Branch Library location is looking for a customer-focused, creative, and enthusiastic individual with excellent interpersonal skills who can master a variety of tasks in a busy environment. The mix of duties includes: assisting customers with computer applications, printing, self-check, DVD dispenser, eReader and other mobile devices, as well as, assisting with library programs, material handling, and shelving.

  • Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous customer service experience preferred
  • Knowledge and experience with basic computer applications
  • Bilingual Spanish/English language skills a plus

Part-Time:18 hours per week at the Rakow Branch. Schedule may include weekday, evening, and weekend hours.

Preliminary schedule will be:

  • Tuesdays 9am-3pm
  • Wednesdays 2-8pm
  • Thursdays 2-8pm

The Library reserves the right to change the schedule as necessitated by the library’s operational demands.

Hourly Rate:  $13.16 per hour

Videographer & Graphic Designer

Gail Borden Public Library has an immediate opening for a full-time Videographer & Graphic Designer to work in our fast-paced Graphics Department. Qualified candidates must have experience and be proficient with recording audio and video content, as well as telling “the story” through creative editing of the recorded content.

Candidates must also be able to design and produce brochures, signs, posters, flyers, program props and other print materials. In addition, the position requires taking photos of library events and exhibits, editing, and posting to communication channels.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic arts or equivalent college coursework with hands-on experience with video recording, video editing and photography
  • End-to-end video production experience, as well as knowledge of animation or motion graphics
  • Ability to work collaboratively in conceptual development meetings for library-wide projects
  • Highly developed skill in graphics and composition with a keen eye for detail and the ability to create a finished product such as brochures, flyers, posters or other printed material
  • Experience and skill using Acrobat Pro, Illustrator, Photoshop, In Design, Premier and After Effects
  • Experience with social media and content marketing
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment with the ability to prioritize and manage time effectively to meet deadlines
  • Ability to adapt to changing technology; comfortable with trying out new technology
  • Superb interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills
  • Must be comfortable interacting with the public
  • Must be a self-starter with a high level of motivation, commitment and dedication to take a project from the beginning to the end
  • Positive attitude in support of the library’s mission, vision and values

Full-time position (37.5 hours/week) with occasional evenings & weekends based on library events

Salary:$46,000 per year + Excellent Benefits

KidSpace Desk & Program Page

The Main Library location has a part-time Page position available in the KidSpace Department.  We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual, who loves working with children, to support our fast-paced, energy-driven, kid-friendly department. The mix of duties includes, but is not limited to:

  • Assisting with staff activities at the Youth Center Help Desk
  • Assisting at children’s programs with tasks such as modeling story-time behaviors, monitoring the crowd, basic puppetry, or other tasks
  • Assisting children and caregivers with Youth Center computers
  • Supporting the department with many behind-the-scenes tasks
  • Retrieving materials as requested

Qualifications:

  • Minimum age requirement - 16 years of age
  • Must have knowledge and skills in using basic computer applications including internet searches and word processing programs
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Desire and ability to work with children
  • Spanish language skills are a plus

     

15 hours per week; must be flexible to work a varied schedule including late afternoons, evenings, and weekends.

Hourly Rate:   $ 11.00 per hour

Hispanic Services Program and Outreach Assistant

The Gail Borden Public Library is looking for a reliable, friendly, and highly organized bilingual individual to join our Hispanic Services Department!  You will be part of a passionate and creative team in the Community Services and Program Development Division that supports Spanish-language and bilingual programs and services for adults and families.  The members of this team will count on you for valuable clerical support and assistance with many details related to coordinating and facilitating programming and services in Spanish and English.

The successful candidate will be:

  • Good with spoken and written Spanish and English communication
  • A reliable team player interested in serving our Hispanic population with high quality work
  • Well-organized and capable of producing clearly formatted documents
  • Able to pay attention to many details at once including dates, times, names, locations, etc.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs and apps
  • Able to learn new technology quickly and proficiently
  • Friendly and communicative

Other Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • General office experience

Part-Time: 18 hrs. per week. Flexible hours include daytime and evening, weekdays, and weekends.  Schedule will be occasionally adjusted to allow for participation in programs, outreach, and special events.
