Library Associate
Join the Information Services team at Gail Borden Library as a part-time (24 hours/week) Library Associate. In this role, you will deliver exceptional customer service and develop strong interpersonal skills. You will serve the public by providing information, promoting library materials and services, and assisting customers with technology.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Works with a team to provide excellent customer service.
- Responds to customer inquiries for information, books, and other materials.
- Refers questions to a librarian as appropriate.
- Promotes library services.
- Assists customers with technology tasks such as wireless printing and installing apps.
- Answers phone calls.
- Serving as U.S. Passport Acceptance Agent*
*Candidates for this position must meet criteria required by the U.S. Department of State to become a U.S. Passport Acceptance Agent:
- U.S. citizen or a U.S. non-citizen national;
- 18 years of age or older;
- Does not have a record of either: (i) A Federal or State felony conviction; or (ii) A misdemeanor conviction for crimes involving moral turpitude or breach of trust, including but not limited to embezzlement, identity theft, misappropriation, document fraud, drug offenses, or dishonesty in carrying out a responsibility involving public trust.
Other Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of technology including Microsoft Office, mobile devices, apps, and computers.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Bilingual Spanish/English fluency a plus.
24 hours per week including days, evenings, and weekends. Schedule may vary from week to week, but is generally 3 shifts per week.
Pay Rate: $21.00 per hour + enrollment in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) + prorated Vacation, Sick Time, Floating Holidays, and Personal Time.

Hispanic Services Library Associate
The Hispanic Services Department at our Main Library location is looking for a dynamic and outgoing bilingual individual to join our team. You will be part of a passionate, creative team that provides Spanish and bilingual programs for adults and families at the library locations and in the community. In this role, you will be expected to collaborate with community organizations and partners to develop positive relationships in the community, share information on library services in Spanish and English, and plan and implement outreach programming and visits.
The successful candidate will be:
- A dynamic team-player.
- Able to provide translation from English to Spanish, and Spanish to English.
- Able to connect and interact positively with various partners, organizations, and customers of all ages and backgrounds.
- Someone who can arrange tasks efficiently and be able to coordinate and implement programs.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and other computer technologies.
- Able to learn about various library services and provide information to others.
Other Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Verbal and written fluency in Spanish and English.
- Valid driver’s license, insurance, and good driving record.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Full-time position (37.5 hours/week). Schedule varies according to program needs and regularly includes evening and weekend hours.
Hourly Rate: $21.00 + Excellent Benefits including IMRF, insurance, and time-off benefits.
