Computer Center Assistant
The Main Library location has a part-time position available in our Computer Center. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, dedicated to excellent customer service, and passionate about working with all members of the community.
Primary job duties include:
- Providing excellent customer service to library users.
- Assisting customers with logging into computers, accessing websites, and formatting documents.
- Assisting customers with printing from PCs and mobile devices, scanning, copying, and faxing.
- Preparing devices and the Computer Training Room for classes.
- Maintaining a clean and welcoming environment for library users.
- Data entry.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a customer service environment.
- Hands-on experience using desktop/laptop computers, mobile devices, software, and apps.
- Successful completion of a computer skills assessment test.
- Bilingual English/Spanish language skills preferred.
Part-Time: 18 hours per week; schedule subject to change and may include day, evening, and weekend hours. The current schedule is Sunday 11-5, Thursday 9-3, Friday 12-6.
Pay Rate: $18.00 per hour

Customer Relations Assistant
Are you a positive and friendly individual who enjoys engaging with all types of people? Our Customer Relations Department may be the place for you! Our Main Library has a part-time opening for someone who has excellent communication & customer service skills and the ability to problem-solve.
Primary job duties include:
- Performing library material check-in and check-outs, renewals, holds, customer library card registrations and license plate renewals in accordance with established library policies and procedures.
- Providing information to customers, answering questions, and being proactive with offering assistance in a friendly and professional manner.
- Using technology and digital resources to assist customers with electronic platforms.
We are looking for someone who is:

- A team player who thinks quickly on their feet as decisions need to be made.
- A self-starter with the initiative and courage to propose new ideas.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Some knowledge of library clerical procedures and practices.
- Experience in a customer service environment.
- Basic math skills and ability to alphabetize.
- Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish desirable.
25 hours per week – combination of days, nights, and weekend hours.
Hourly Rate: $17.00 per hour + Enrollment in IMRF pension plan + prorated time-off benefits.

Mobile Library Services Assistant
Are you looking for an exciting part-time job in a vibrant community? Are you interested in providing excellent customer service to both our English and Spanish-speaking customers? Are you a hands-on individual who enjoys working closely with people? If so, then Gail Borden Library has a great opportunity for you in our Mobile Library Services Department.
This position requires working onboard the Bookmobile, TechKnow Mobile and other outreach vehicles with the rest of our Mobile Library Services team to venture beyond the library’s walls and engage our customers where they live, work, play, and relax. The successful individual needs to be bilingual in English and Spanish, an excellent team player, and well-organized with excellent time management, prioritization capabilities and follow-up skills.
Some of the primary responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Assists Mobile Library Services customers with questions and information requests
- Sorts and shelves library materials aboard our outreach vehicles and at the Library
- Ensures appropriate materials are shelved for the audience of each day’s route
- Performs daily check out/check in of materials on board vehicles and at Main Library
- Assists with daily vehicle checklist and logs
- Uses the library’s software for check out of materials and library card registrations
- Works with other Mobile Library Services staff to develop a positive, collaborative, and strong team
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Bilingual Spanish/English verbal language skills are required
- Previous customer service experience a plus
- Experience working with children a plus
- Must be dependable and punctual
- Knowledge and experience with basic computer applications
- Experience with school bus or large vehicles a plus
Part-time: 18 hours per week: Tuesday from 11:30am-5:30pm & Thursday and Friday from 8am-2pm
Hourly Rate: $17.00 per hour
