Temporary Computer Center Assistant 

Turn your tech skills and customer service passion into community impact this fall at the Main Library! We’re seeking a temporary, part-time team member to join our Computer Center from September 22 to December 22, 2025. We’re looking for an enthusiastic individual who is committed to providing excellent customer service and enjoys working with members of the community.

In this role you will:

  • Provide excellent customer service to library users.
  • Assist customers with logging into computers, accessing websites, and formatting documents.
  • Assist customers with printing from PCs and mobile devices, scanning, copying, and faxing.
  • Prepare devices and the Computer Training Room for classes.
  • Assist with maintaining a clean and welcoming environment for library users.
  • Data entry.

Qualifications: 

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a customer service environment.
  • Hands-on experience using desktop/laptop computers, mobile devices, software, and apps.
  • Successful completion of a computer skills assessment test.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish language skills preferred.

Part-Time: 12 hours per week - Thursdays 9 to 3 and Sundays 11 to 5 (This is a temporary role from September 22 – December 22).

Pay Rate: $18.00 per hour.

Class Visit Associate

Are you a creative, hands-on person with a passion for bringing the library to life for our youngest customers? If you are passionate about early literacy and enjoy serving young children and families, we have an exciting opportunity for you!

We are looking for a friendly and enthusiastic individual with excellent communication and customer service skills to join our KidSpace team at the Main Library location.  The successful candidate will be an excellent team player who makes customers feel at home, and – most importantly- enjoys working with children of all ages.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead presentations and tours for visitors in PreK-5th grade.
  • Provide basic readers’ advisory and reference assistance at the KidSpace reference desk.
  • Assist customers with basic technology assistance.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience working with children in group settings.
  • Familiarity with child development and children’s literature.
  • Ability to speak comfortably and distinctly in front of large crowds.
  • Knowledge and experience with basic computer applications and tablets.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish language skills are a plus.

12 hours per week – Tues, Wed, Thurs.  8:30am-12:30pm.

Business & Career Services Librarian

Gail Borden Public Library is looking for a full-time librarian who is adaptive, kind, and innovative, to work at our Main Library location. This role is ideal for a librarian who is passionate about empowering individuals through career development, business support, and consumer literacy.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide general reference assistance and readers’ advisory to customers.
  • Review and edit the library’s resource guides and web pages for businesses and job hunters.
  • Build relationships with community partners.
  • Plan, prepare, and teach in-house programs, classes, and events.
  • Serve as U.S. Passport Acceptance Agent. 

Qualifications: 

  • MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited library school.
  • Previous public library experience preferred.
  • Public presentation experience preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills strongly desired.

Other eligibility requirements to serve as a U.S. Passport Acceptance Agent are as follows:

  • U.S. citizen or a U.S. non-citizen national
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Does not have a record of either: (i) A Federal or State felony conviction; or (ii) A misdemeanor conviction for crimes involving moral turpitude or breach of trust, including but not limited to embezzlement, identity theft, misappropriation, document fraud, drug offenses, or dishonesty in carrying out a responsibility involving public trust.

Full-time (37.5 hours/week) - Schedule includes weekday, evening, and weekend hours.

Elementary School Engagement Coordinator 

Are you passionate about literacy, education, and community engagement? Do you love working with kids and building partnerships that make a difference? We’re looking for an enthusiastic and organized individual to join our Mobile Library Services team.

This position develops, coordinates, and implements educational outreach services for grade school students, principals, teachers, librarians, and parents with the goal of equitable access to information, reading materials, and the acquisition of literacy skills. The successful candidate will be someone who thrives in a collaborative work environment and is enthusiastic about connecting children and educators to library services.

In this role you will:

  • Coordinate outreach and programming for grade school students at schools and community sites.
  • Collaborate with teachers, principals, school librarians, and community organizations.
  • Provide access to library resources, promote reading and support the development of lifelong learning
  • Coordinate the children’s Summer Reading Challenge with community partners.
  • Assist with Bookmobile visits to schools.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience working with children in group settings.
  • Experience engaging with grade school-aged children.
  • Knowledge and experience with basic computer applications.
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills required.

Full-time, non-exempt position (37.5 hours per week) - Primarily daytime hours, with occasional evening and weekend hours as needed.

Branch Children’s Services Manager 

Gail Borden Public Library is looking for a dynamic, positive, creative, and experienced Librarian to join our versatile, cross-trained Branch Library Services Department to oversee and lead our Children’s Services team at two vibrant branch libraries. The successful individual in this position will be a reliable, motivated, and energetic team player who makes customers feel at home and can be an exemplary Person-in-Charge when needed.

In this role you will:

  • Lead and manage a team of Branch Programming Associates, Branch Customer Relations Associates, and Branch Customer Relations Assistants, fostering a collaborative work environment.
  • Oversee Children’s Areas at the Rakow Branch and South Elgin Branch, ensuring engaging and well-maintained spaces for children and families.
  • Develop and oversee high-quality children’s and family programming at both branches.
  • Participate in Branch Library Services Management Team to align services and programs with the library’s mission.

Qualifications: 

  • MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited library school.
  • Minimum 3 years of increasingly responsible experience in a public library position including supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated success in planning, implementing, and evaluating children’s and family programs.
  • Knowledge of early literacy principles, child development, and trends in library services for children and families.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills.
  • Ability to manage budgets and allocate resources effectively.
  • Must have reliable transportation to be able to drive between the Branches.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English language skills a plus

Full-time position (37.5 hours/week) split between both Branch locations. Schedule may include weekday, evening, and weekend hours.
