Finance Assistant
Are you a “numbers” person? Gail Borden Public Library is looking for a part-time Finance Assistant to work onsite in the Finance Department at the Main Library location. The individual must be reliable, accurate, detail-oriented and be able to adapt to change quickly and positively.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Cash handling and balancing
- Account and revenue reconciliations
- Preparing bank deposits including transport to the local bank
- Financial data entry
- Spreadsheet preparation
- Setting up vendor accounts
- Ordering and maintaining office supply inventory
Basic to Intermediate knowledge of Excel is required. Candidate must have good interpersonal skills to interact with all levels within the organization, as well as with vendors.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience in accounting and/or business including cash reconciliation and purchasing functions
- Must be proficient with internet use, Microsoft Word & Excel, adding machine use, and accurate data entry
- Detail-minded with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
- Must be a team-player with the ability to adapt to change to routines and workflows
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record (driving record history will be requested upon hire)
Part-time: 18 hours per week; 4 days per week, Mon – Fri 8:30am to 1:00pm preferred, days and times negotiable
Hourly Rate: $19.00 per hour + prorated Personal Time and Floating Holiday time off benefits

KidSpace Desk & Program Page
The Main Library location has a part-time Page positions available in the KidSpace Department. We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals, who love working with children, to support our fast-paced, energy-driven, kid-friendly department.
The mix of duties includes, but is not limited to:
- Assisting with activities at the Youth Center Help Desk.
- Assisting at children’s programs with tasks such as modeling story-time behaviors, monitoring the crowd, and other tasks.
- Assisting children and caregivers with Youth Center computers and other technologies.
- Supporting the department with many behind-the-scenes tasks.
- Retrieving materials as requested.
Qualifications:
- Minimum age requirement is 16 years of age.
- Must have knowledge and skills in using basic computer applications including internet searches and word processing programs.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Desire and ability to work with children.
- Spanish language skills are a plus.
Part-time: 15 hours per week during the school year and 18 hours per week in the summer, Must be flexible to work a varied schedule which includes evenings and weekends.
Hourly Rate: $ 13.00 per hour (Rate will increase to $15.00 per hour in January 2024)

Early Literacy Associate
Do you have a passion for bringing the library to life for our youngest customers? Are you excited about early literacy and find working with children, parents, and teachers energizing? Do you love reading stories and singing songs with preschoolers? We are looking for a creative and enthusiastic person to join our KidSpace Department at the Main Library. You will be part of a 5-Star organization whose mission is to inspire imagination & transformation. Candidates must have experience planning and presenting storytimes and large-scale events. In addition, candidates must be proficient with technology, possess strong customer service and reader's advisory skills, able to work in a fast-paced environment, and—most importantly—must enjoy working with children of all ages.
In this role you will:
- Plan and present weekly preschool programs and events.
- Assist with the planning and presentation of large-scale early literacy and family events.
- Provide reader's advisory and reference assistance to children and their caregivers.
- Assist with projects and services for the Early Learning Center audience in the KidSpace Department.
You will need to be:
- Friendly, outgoing, and able to build relationships at all levels.
- Experienced in providing excellent customer service.
- Experienced in planning and presenting Storytimes in small and large groups.
- Knowledgeable about children's books, materials, and technology trends in education.
- Able to collaborate with a team and work one-on-one with customers and staff.
- A motivated self-starter with a strong work ethic and excellent time management skills.
- Mindful, adaptable, and open to new ideas and feedback.
- Patient and love working with children.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experienceworking with children.
- Excellent presentation skills for groups of all sizes and ages.
- Early literacy experience.
- Public library experience desirable.
- Spanish language skills are a plus.
Part-time: 28 hours per week. Must be flexible to work a varied schedule.
Pay rate: $19.00 per hour + Excellent time-off benefits and enrollment in IMRF pension plan.
