License Plate Renewal Services Are Back Beginning April 27, 2026
License Plate Renewal Services will be available at the Main Library beginning April 27, 2026. We appreciate your patience and look forward to bringing this service back to you very soon.
Renew Your License Plate - Main Library Only
Gail Borden Library offers Illinois License Plate sticker renewal service. Illinois residents will be able to renew their license plate stickers and leave with the sticker the same day*. You will need your Illinois Vehicle Registration Renewal Notice or Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), Driver's license number and license plate number.

Please Note: If your vehicle needs to pass an emissions test, the Library will be unable to renew your license plate.

Renewals will be available during the following hours at the Main Library only (first floor, customer service area).

Fees & Payment Methods
Customers will be able to pay with cash, debit or credit card. An ATM machine is available at CCU (Consumers Credit Union); inside the lobby of the Main Library for CCU Members.
Cost of renewal sticker: Varies
Service fee for each renewal: $9.50
Processing fee for using credit/debit card:$5.00
We do not accept checks.
