Save Oct. 2 for the First Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration

Folkloric dancing by Huehuecoyotl, Corazón Boliviano and Somos Colombia, mariachi, Latino food and artists are just a small sample of the flavor that will make up the first ever Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration on October 2 from 2-5 p.m at the Gail Borden Public Library at 270 North Grove in Elgin. Youngest Solo Kayaker Recounts Adventures

We believe that Elginite Will Lytle has become the youngest person to solo kayak the 2,350 miles of the entire Mississippi River.  He completed the trip last week via the bayou route where he counted 25 alligators. He never made better time!  he and his brother Joe captivated the audience with tales and pictures from their adventure.  See news coverage - Courier...Triblocal...Daily Herald...SunTimes.  Thank you media.   Your coverage brought many readers to Will's blog, the most unique offering of the library's  summer reading program, Be a Hero - Read.
