2010 Census Campaign

The local census video featuring Mayor Ed Schock, U-46 Superintendent Dr. Jose Torres, Library Executive Director Carole Medal and more is complete and uploaded-

 
"Nothing to Fear" in Spanish -  "En el Censo 'no hay nada que temer," regarding the Census recently in HOY.  Census forms will be reaching residences via mail in days. Getting counted makes a tremendous difference to the community.  and get involved.  $400 billion dollars are distributed annually by the federal government. Gail Borden's Got Talent!

For youth in grades 1-6.  Singers, dancers, jugglers, magicians. . .show off your talent for up to two minutes. Judges will choose finalists from two age groups, Grades 1 – 3 and Grades 4 – 6. Preliminary Round is March 22 and Finals are March 25.   All ages are welcome to watch in the audience. Click "Read more" for details about times and how to register starting February 15.

Ready to Read Family Workshop

On Saturdays, March 6, 13 and 20 from 10-11:30 a.m., help your child develop the skills necessary to be ready to read. Early literacy activity stations will enable parents and children to participate in activities together to reinforce pre-reading skills. Activities will include games, toys, picture books and lots of fun! For a preschool child and their parent or caregiver. Community rooms.  Please register.

The library has a space just for you!  The Job Hunting section is full of resources that can help you get a job.  Use the computers to job search online, write your resume, or apply online; take practice tests and courses through library databases; checkout books covering such topics as: the job search, career choice, resumes, and cover letters; and read job advertisements posted with the Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce.  Visit the Job Hunting section on the second floor today!

Discovery 2010 on April 17 Will Feature Hundreds of Projects

This area's first all-district science fair, Discovery 2010, is scheduled for April 17 from 9 a.m. - noon.  Open to all students in K-12 in the U-46 and Gail Borden Library districts, there are hundreds of entrants from many schools both public and private.  

 Students and families can get science fair assistance at the library from 6 - 8 p.m. on Feb. 9 and 25 and from 1- 3 p.m. on March 22, or visit the library's Science Fair web page for books, links, and more.  Even if you do not have a child that is entered, everyone is encouraged to come and support youth science.
