U-46 Superintendent Dr. Jose Torres "cut the spaghetti" to open the Reading is So Delicious, Summer Reading Program 2012. Elgin City Manager, Sean Stegall, Library Trustee Sue Moylan, Centro's Jaime Garcia, ECCO's Sigi Psimenos and Gail Borden's own executive director, Carole Medal also joined the summer reading club. The library "Reading is so Delicious" summer reading program opens for business on May 15. Gloria Cregier Emma: The New York Orphan Who Built Chicago
The Story of DeWitt Clinton Cregier, a 19th Century American Engineering Genius Thursday, May 17 7-8:30 pm Community Rooms AB DeWitt Cregier was only 24 when he was recruited from New York in 1853 to design the water-pumping system for Chicago. Almost 20 years later, he was hailed as a hero after manning the pumps all night during the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. As mayor of Chicago, he won the 1893 Columbian Exposition for the city. Gloria Cregier Emma is one of his last surviving grandchildren.
