Wacky Family Fitness Show

This high energy show encourages health, fitness and fun. Participate in physical team challenges to stimulate the mind, create team play and boost self-esteem. Designed by Brian Wismer. 

 

Messy Play
Main Library* and Rakow Branch Patios

Fridays in July
9:30 – 11:30 am

Ages 3-6. Explore our water table, playhouse and other activities. Each week will feature a different theme of messy fun. Weather permitting. *Drop-in patio play may be available other weekdays. Call 847-429-4685 for more information.

 

Beyond Ribbit

Did you know that Illinois wetlands are home to several species of frogs? Some even live in the Rakow Branch pond! Come learn about frogs, imitate the many different calls in the evening frog chorus and hear what kinds of frogs call our pond home.  R

10 – 11:30 am

Grades 1-5. Young ecologists will investigate what’s living in the Rakow Branch pond using nets for scooping and tools to sort through vegetation. Dress for mess; bring a hat to avoid sun.  R 

Butterfly Camp

10 – 11 am

Learn about Monarch butterflies, enjoy crafts and take a field trip to our Butterfly Garden and the Rakow Branch wetlands.  R 

 

Touch-a-Truck

Climb on an Elgin fire engine, an Elgin police car, school bus, ambulance and more! Bring a picnic dinner to the library's west lawn at 6:00 pm. Beverage and dessert will be provided by the library.

Award-winning, energetic and goofy Rick Kelley performs music to motivate people to “Get Involved.” Dessert will be provided. Bring a picnic dinner and something to sit on. Performance begins at 6:30 pm.

6 pm Bring a picnic dinner to the library's west lawn. Beverage and dessert will be provided by the library.
7 pm The Barefoot Hawaiians will entertain with dynamic dances, dramatic drumming, vibrant costumes and display of customs from the islands. Watch the thrilling visual Poi Balls dance from New Zealand and the famous Hula dance from Hawaii.

Online Registration Assistance for Returning Families!

 

Gail Borden Library and U-46 staff members will be onsite to provide assistance for completing registration for the 2018-19 school year.

Check-in on the Second Floor.

Please bring the YELLOW REGISTRATION FORM containing your username and password and proof of current residency.

This event is for parents with children returning to U-46 who have not completed registration.

If you are new to the district, please call to set up an appointment at our district office: 847-888-5000, ext. 5717 (5016 for Spanish)

 

Current Families must register in person if:

  • You have moved and need to update your address.
  • You have a new kindergarten student who was not pre-registered. Please complete online registration and add this student to your online application as a New Student. Then, contact the school or the Registration Office to make an appointment to turn in your child's birth certificate and your proof of residency. Your kindergarten student will not be scheduled into a class until all required paperwork is received.
  • You have a new preschool student. Preschool age children need to be screened in order to qualify for placement. Please call 847-888-5000 ext. 6094 to make a screening appointment.
  • New or returning preschool students will not be scheduled into a class until all required paperwork is received.

To be fully registered, the following must be completed:

  • Online Registration Application Submitted
  • Approved Proof of Residency on file at each school
  • Up-to-Date Medical Information on file at each school
  • Required Fees Paid in Full

Sail through the community!

X marks the spot! Make your way through the community starting July 1 to locate the window clings to win prizes. 
 
 
  • Grab a map from the Main Library, Rakow Branch or South Elgin Branch and find the window cling at each location to answer the Sea Search question. Locations can be visited in any order. 
  • When you answer 10 Sea Search questions, bring your map into any library location to receive a prize.
  • Answer all 27 questions to enter your finished Sea Search form at any library location for a chance to win a Sea Search Gift Basket.
  • Your Sea Search form must be submitted no later than August 3.

To enhance financial literacy opportunities for those in our community, the not-for-profit KCT Credit Union will be opening a small branch in concessionaire space right next to the Café in the Main Library. By reconfiguring the Café footprint, this new vendor-space addition provides visitors with an opportunity to not only purchase a beverage or food item from the Café but also learn about financial literacy and financial products from KCT. 

Celebration will include activities for all ages and more. Only 1,000 tacos available.

Tuesday, May 15     Main Library     4 – 5 pm 

Come celebrate with us as we kick off the 2018 Summer Reading Challenge: Dive into Reading with School District U-46 CEO Tony Sanders and Carole Medal, Executive Director of the Gail Borden Public Library District. Sign and take your photos with our giant reading log, fish for prizes and see giant sea creature characters around the Library.
