Removing language barriers and fostering trust are two of the most important things they did in their efforts to persuade minority residents in Elgin to get a COVID-19 vaccine, the manager of a library-based program told a Congressional subcommittee.

The Gail Borden Public Library District Foundation plans to use state grant money to partner with Centro de Informacion in helping Elgin residents impacted by COVID-19. That help could be anything from obtaining assistance to pay late utility bills to finding a place to get a vaccination, officials said. “We were honored to receive this funding and to do this work,” foundation Executive Director Mike Lee said.
