Gail Borden Library Unveils 'KidSpace Reimagined' May 13
ELGIN, IL – (May 8, 2025) – The Gail Borden Public Library District is delighted to invite the public to the Grand Opening of its brand-new KidSpace area on Tuesday, May 13 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Main Library, located at 270 N. Grove Ave., Elgin, 60120.
The opening celebration will feature an exciting reveal, offering attendees the first opportunity to experience the newly-renovated space. Visitors can explore the hands-on play areas, enjoy crafts and live music, capture exciting memories at photo ops, and more. The first 200 people will also receive a special giveaway.
“KidSpace is more than just a children’s area; it’s a launchpad for young minds,” said Carole Medal, CEO of Gail Borden Public Library. “We have created an exciting place where children can explore, imagine, and develop a passion for learning and libraries that we hope will stay with them for life.”
This major transformation of the area formerly known as the “Early Learning Center” has been underway since January 2025. The updates to the space have created a more modern, accessible and dynamic environment.

This major transformation of the area formerly known as the “Early Learning Center” has been underway since January 2025. The updates to the space have created a more modern, accessible and dynamic environment.
“Enriching projects like this one wouldn’t be possible without the incredible support from our community sponsors,” said Natalie Kiburg, spokeswoman for the Gail Borden Library.
“The Seigle Foundation, Consumers Credit Union, the Gail Borden Public Library Foundation and the Golden K Kiwanis Club were instrumental in the transformation of this engaging play space for the Library community,” Kiburg added.
The Grand Opening event will also include a diaper donation drive in the Main Library lobby and a diaper distribution in the Main Library parking lot, in collaboration with Enriching Partnerships for Early Learning (EPEL) and St. Paul's United Church of Christ Diaper Ministry. This initiative aims to further support families within the Library community.
