Skeleton Trot 5K 2025 Early Bird Registration Now Open
Karen Fox, President of the Gail Borden Public Library District Foundation and John Devereux, President of the U-46 Educational Foundation, are pleased to announce the opening of registration for the 5K El Trote run/walk that will take place on October 18, 2025.
Two local organizations teamed up to present a major celebration of Mexican culture in 2024. This 5K showcased community diversity while raising funds to support thousands of residents served by both School District U-46 and the Gail Borden Public Library District.
Ther running of the skeletons 5K is a remarkable partnership between the two foundations. They worked together to create an extraordinary family-friendly race for this community.
“In 2024, we were hoping for 500 participants,” said Fox.  “We were totally and happily surprised when almost double that amount of people participated.”
“We were so pleased with the response,” said Devereux.  “People of all ages showed up and they let us know how much they enjoyed themselves with 95% of those surveyed saying that they would definitely participate again.”
With music, churros, Catrinas and more, people commented that, “It was a great experience,” “We enjoyed everything,” and “It was an excellent event.”
Organizers plan to make improvements for 2025 with a start time of 9 am instead of 8 am and shorter lines for the free churros and hot chocolate.
Again in 2025, there will be a new T-shirt design, early bird and team pricing and much more.
Early bird race registration is now open at gailborden.info/trote
Additionally, sponsorship opportunities are available for businesses and organizations interested in supporting this unique cultural event while gaining exposure to a diverse audience.
We would also like to point out that there are other local 5K races prior to El Trote. The Pads of Elgin Home Run 5K takes place on April 26, 2025 (https://secure.qgiv.com/for/homerun5k/event/homerun5k2025/) and the Elgin Valley Fox Trot #48 takes place on June 1, 2025 (https://elginfoxtrot.org/).
