Youth Center
Serving children in 1st – 6th grades

Children under age 8 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Audio Visual – Videos, DVD’s, CD’s, CD-ROMS, and recorded books are available
for check out and are shelved in the Audio-Visual Department.

Aquarium – Come and look at the fish and turtles in our aquarium.

Books – A variety of fiction and non-fiction books in both English and Spanish are available for readers in 1st – 6th grades. Magazines are also available to read at the library or check out.

Computers – Our computers feature Internet access, our online library catalog and the same electronic resources that are found in Adult Services. They are available on a first-come, first-served basis and usage is limited to 20 minutes.

Crafts – Various crafts are available on U-46 no-school days and special holidays. Crafts are for children in 1st grade and older. (Crafts for younger children can be found in the Early Learning Center.) Each child may have one craft per day at no charge. Additional crafts are available at $.25 per craft. Coloring sheets are available as well.

Globe – Locate Illinois as well as many other states and countries on our giant globe.

In-room viewing/listening – A short video and a book with a recorded story are available for viewing/listening. These are changed weekly and are located outside of the Resource Room.

Kits – Books with a cassette or CD are available for check out.

Library Cards – Parents can decide when they want their children to have a library card. Please see a staff member at the Registration desk Area at Circulation to apply for your free library card today. Restrictions may apply.

Programs – Please see our monthly calendars for detailed program information.

Resource Room – Adults are welcome to use our resource room which contains an Ellison Die machine, badge maker, laminator, paper cutter and more. Fees are required for use of some equipment. Please bring your own paper and supplies. Please see a staff member in the Youth Center for more information.

Study Rooms – Need a quiet place to study? We have three study rooms available for youth to use on a first come, first served basis. Please see a staff member at the Youth Center Desk. A Library card is required.

Toys – A variety of learning toys and games are available for check out.
