Middle School
Ways to Complete Your Summer Reading Quest
- Read books, magazines, comics, fact books, audio books, blog posts, or even subtitles on a foreign cartoon. You can also read aloud to other people. Color a shield each time you read 30 minutes, or color half a shield for reading 15 minutes.
- Attend library events. When you attend any of the events listed in this log, you will receive a special stamp. Each stamp counts the same as 30 minutes of reading time!
- Share your favorite reads. Write a 100-word review of something you’ve read, illustrate a scene from a book, or create a book trailer at a website like animoto.com. Bring your creation (or a weblink) to any middle-school program for a special stamp.
When all the shields are filled in, Claim your Prize by bringing your completed log to the library. Everyone who turns in their log by Saturday, August 13 will receive a comic or paperback book, plus coupons from local businesses and an entry into the Grand Prize Drawing. You could win an iPod shuffle, a Game Stop gift card, an artist’s drawing set, or other great prizes!
Studio 270/High School
For every 5 quests you complete you receive an entry into the grand prize drawing for an iPod Touch. You can complete up to 30 quests between May 25th & September 3rd.
- Quest #1: Read
Read a book, magazine, eBook, newspaper, or listen to an audiobook. List the titles.
- Quest #2: Participate
Attend a Studio 270 program. Don’t forget to bring your reading log for Studio 270 mentors to sign.
- Quest #3: Create
Create a work of art about a book. Design a poster; write a song or poem; make a video; put together a soundtrack; paint a picture; design a t-shirt. Let your creativity take over. Bring your artwork in for Studio 270 staff to see.
Pick and choose from the 3 quests in any combination, but remember that for every 5 quests 1 must be a Read.
Adult
Herein are the rules ye shall follow:
- Read 6 parchments (books) of ye own choosing—they may be inked parchments, audio-parchments, or even e-parchments from that remote marketplace MyMediaMall.
- List ye the titles ye have read on the scroll below.
- If ye lack the wizardry to acquire an e-parchment but the notion charms ye, seek out the wise counsel of the Keepers Of Knowledge at the Information Desk. Any brave and stalwart knave who reads an e-parchment from MyMediaMall on the electronic parchment reader of their choice shall receive an extra chance in the Grand Prize Drawbridge at the end of the summer.
- If ye are moved to proclaim the goodness or the fiendishness of a book, so then shall ye illuminate the online proclamation form that ye shall find at www.gailborden.info or upon our Facebooke electronic friendship scroll at facebook.com/gailbordenpubliclibrary. So then shall ye receive another entry in the Grand Prize Drawbridge.
- Upon that portentous hour that ye complete the reading of the 6, hasten to Ye Olde Gail Borden Library and bestow thine Scroll of Summer Reading at the Information Desk. For thine valiant efforts, ye shall receive a toting sack of material that offendest not Mother Earth.
- Also upon the completion of this quest, ye shall be entered in the Grand Prize Drawbridge for an electronic parchment reader!
- This particular quest is not for those of tender years. If ye are a scholar attending 9th—12th grades, so shall ye take up a quest in the fiefdom of Studio 270.
- If ye be riddling for magnificent scrolls to read, or matters sundry trouble thy brow, seek ye the Keepers Of Knowledge at the Information Desk on the 2nd floor.
