How to Checkout Materials
With your valid library card in hand, you may check out printed materials, audiovisual materials, and use the Computer Center. District residents may have a maximum of 60 items checked out at any one time. Residents from other library service areas may have other limits.
Materials can be checked out with our Self-Check equipment, or by staff at the Customer Service desk. Ask our Customer Service staff for details. Receipts listing items checked out and their due dates may be printed for each transaction.
Drive-Up Window
Drive up windows are available at both the main library building and at the Rakow Branch.
The Main Library Building Drive-Up Window is open:
Monday-Thursday 8:00 AM - 9:00 PM
Friday-Saturday 8:00 AM - 5:30 PM
Sunday 12:00 PM - 5:30 PM
The Rakow Branch Drive-Up Window is open:
Monday-Thursday 9:00 AM - 8:00 PM
Saturday 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM
Sunday 1:00 PM - 5:30 PM
To ensure prompt service, please limit your request to 5 items.
Payment for lost materials must be handled inside the library at the Customer Service Desk.
Library card registration is handled at the Registration Desk.
Holds
When all copies of an item are checked out, library district residents may place a "hold" or "reserve" on those items. When they become available, you will be notified by telephone, e-mail, or U.S. mail.

Reciprocal Borrower
Checkout Limits
Reciprocal Borrower from Dundee and Hampshire Library Districts are limited to a total of 20 items on their library card. All other non-resident borrowers are limited to a total of 30 items on their library card.Read our Special Message for Reciprocal Borrowers for more information.

To request material not owned by the library please fill out a Material Request Form. Forms are available at any library service desk or online.
Interlibrary Loan is a service that allows Gail Borden Public Library cardholders to borrow materials from other libraries.
LINKin is a partnership between the Gail Borden Public Library, Arlington Heights Memorial Library, Skokie Public Library, Cook Memorial Library, and Deerfield Public Library. The service offers quick access to the collections of the partner libraries when materials are not available at Gail Borden Public Library.
